65/ How much should I tip guides and drivers?
Tipping is voluntary but appreciated. As a guideline, around 5–10 USD per day for the guide and 3–5 USD per day for the driver is customary. Your final gesture is always up to you.
66/ Is there support during my trip if something goes wrong?
Yes. Our local offices provide support during your trip, and you receive emergency contact numbers so help is only a call away at any time.
67/ When is the best time to travel to Vietnam?
Vietnam stretches over 1,600 km, so climate varies. October to April is generally best for the north and centre, while the south is pleasant year-round. We match your route to the season for the best time.
68/ What should I pack?
Bring light, breathable clothing, a rain jacket, comfortable shoes, sun protection and something warmer for the northern mountains and cool evenings. For temple visits, pack clothing that covers shoulders and knees.
69/ Which currency do I handle money – cash or card?
The currency is the Vietnamese dong (VND). ATMs are widely available and cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants, but carry some cash for markets, small eateries and rural areas.
70/ What vaccinations or health precautions are recommended?
There are no mandatory vaccinations for travellers from Europe, but standard travel vaccinations may be advised. Please consult your doctor or a travel clinic in good time, and take out travel health insurance.
71/ What power plugs and voltage are used in Vietnam?
Vietnam uses 220V, and sockets commonly accept European two-pin (type C) plugs, so most German devices work without an adapter. A universal adapter is still handy.
72/ What cultural etiquette should I keep in mind?
Respect local etiquette by dressing modestly at temples and pagodas (shoulders and knees covered), removing your shoes where indicated, asking before photographing people, and using both hands to give or receive items as a sign of respect.
73/ Can you accommodate travellers with reduced mobility?
Yes. Please tell us about any mobility needs when enquiring, and we will design an itinerary with suitable transport, accessible hotels and a gentler pace.
74/ How does the weather differ between the north and south?
The weather in north has four seasons with a cool winter (Dec–Feb) and hot, humid summer. The south is tropical and warm all year with a dry season (Nov–Apr) and a rainy season (May–Oct). We plan around the best conditions.
75/ What souvenirs are worth buying?
Popular souvenirs and buys include tailored clothing and silk from Hoi An, lacquerware, coffee, conical hats, ceramics and handicrafts from ethnic minorities. Your guide can point you to fair, quality shops.
76/ Is English widely spoken?
English is spoken in hotels, tourist sites and by younger people in the cities. With our guides at your side, you will never have language problems on tour.
77/ What happens if I need a doctor or medical care during the trip?
Vietnam's cities have good international clinics and access to qualified doctors and medical care. Your guide and our local office can help you reach appropriate care quickly, which is why we recommend travelling with health and repatriation insurance.
78/ Do you offer sustainable or responsible travel options?
Yes. We work with local communities, favour homestays and small-scale partners, reduce single-use plastic and design itineraries that respect nature and culture. Ask us for our responsible travel suggestions.
79/ Do you offer discounts for groups?
Yes. Families and groups benefit from reduced per-person rates. Send us your group size and we will prepare a special offer.
80/ I am travelling solo – is there a single supplement?
Private trips are priced per person and a single-room supplement applies for solo travellers. Join-in group tours are a cheaper alternative for individuals.
81/ How many blank passport pages do I need?
At least two blank pages are recommended so the immigration officer can add entry and exit stamps.
82/ What do I have to declare at customs?
Personal belongings are duty-free. Larger amounts of cash (typically over 5,000 USD or equivalent) and certain goods must be declared. Our guides brief you on the current limits.
83/ What are the must-see highlights in Northern Vietnam?
The north offers Hanoi's old quarter, the UNESCO seascape of Halong Bay, the rice terraces of Sapa and Mu Cang Chai, the caves and rivers of Ninh Binh, and the peaceful valley of Mai Chau.
84/ What should I see in Central Vietnam?
Central Vietnam combines the imperial city of Hue, the lantern-lit old town of Hoi An, the beaches of Da Nang and the vast cave systems of Phong Nha in Quang Binh.
